Kang’ata accuses national government of disrupting Murang’a healthcare services

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has accused the national government of disrupting healthcare services in the county following the shutdown of the Afya.ke digital health system.

Kang’ata says the move could affect service delivery by preventing health workers from accessing patients’ medical histories, prescriptions and laboratory results.

The governor noted that the county had automated its hospitals using the Afya.ke platform, which he said had improved hospital operations and revenue collection.

He claimed the county had been assured that the system would be connected to the national healthcare platform instead of being discontinued.

Kang’ata warned that the transition to a new system could temporarily slow down healthcare services as facilities adjust to the changes.

He also raised concerns about the cost of adopting the replacement platform, saying the county would incur additional expenses.

The governor has urged residents to be patient as the county works to restore normal services.
