Christians urged to Prioritize God Over Work and Business

Christians have been urged to prioritize their relationship with God by setting aside time for prayer, worship and service to others despite their busy schedules.

Rev. Fr. Isaac Mwai, Assistant Priest at Our Lady of Assumption (OLA) Parish, Embu, delivered the message during his homily on the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, warning that excessive focus on work and business could distance believers from God.

He challenged Christians who use busy schedules as an excuse to skip church services and personal prayer, reminding them that work and providing for their families should not replace their spiritual responsibilities.

Drawing from the Gospel account of the wedding banquet, Fr. Mwai explained that the wedding garment symbolizes the righteous life Christians are expected to lead. He noted that although baptism marks the beginning of a new life in Christ, believers must sustain their faith through their daily actions.

The priest cautioned against treating baptism and regular church attendance as automatic guarantees of salvation, urging Christians to examine their conduct and remain faithful to God’s calling.

He also warned against allowing business interests and the desire for material success to take precedence over Sunday worship and personal devotion.

Fr. Mwai further encouraged Christians to practice generosity, emphasizing that helping others does not require wealth, as people can support those in need through small financial contributions, ideas, encouragement and acts of kindness.
