The Bishop of Embu, Rt. Rev. Peter Kimani Ndung’u, has strongly condemned the misuse of public resources by those entrusted with leadership, saying corruption and mismanagement are denying Kenyans essential services and leaving public servants frustrated despite adequate budgetary allocations.
Speaking during a Family Day Holy Mass at Mary Help of Christians Gachoka Catholic Church in Cathedral Parish, Bishop Kimani expressed concern over the ongoing nationwide health workers’ strike, noting that while billions of shillings are allocated to the health sector, many health workers remain unpaid and patients continue to suffer from shortages of medicine and essential services.
The bishop described the situation as a sign of selfish leadership, accusing some public officials of prioritizing personal interests over the welfare of the citizens who elected them into office.
He urged leaders at all levels to uphold integrity, accountability and justice by ensuring that public resources reach their intended beneficiaries.
He also appealed to both the government and health workers to engage in constructive dialogue and urgently resolve the dispute to allow doctors to resume duty and restore healthcare services.
