The Diocese of Embu has elected new lay leaders to serve in various diocesan positions following elections held on Saturday at John Cardinal Njue Pastoral Centre. Lawyer Augustine Muriithi Gacharia from Kigaa Prayer House, Nthagaiya Parish, has been elected as the incoming Diocesan Moderator.
He will be deputized by Manasseh Koigi from St. Joseph Allamano Deanery, while Lucy Kagwithi will serve as Secretary, Gabriel Ngari as Vice Secretary, and Fidencio Mbogo as Treasurer. Other elected leaders include Kelvin Ireri as Youth Moderator, Joseph Ndwiga as CJPD Moderator, and Gilbert Njiru as CMA Moderator.
The leaders, elected for a three-year term, pledged to serve faithfully and with unity, urging Christians to support them through prayers and cooperation.
Vicar General Very Rev. Fr. Eliud Wanyoike congratulated the new office bearers and encouraged them to serve with dedication and accountability, emphasizing their role in both the joyful and challenging moments of the faithful.
The induction and commissioning will be conducted next month after approval by Bishop Rt. Rev. Peter Kimani Ndung’u and the conclusion of Catholic Women’s Association (CWA) elections, which were postponed due to unavoidable circumstances, according to Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator Rev. Fr. Amedeus Mugendi.
