Catholic Diocese of Meru Bishop Jackson Murugara has urged Kenyans to take precautions ahead of forecast heavy rainfall and possible El Niño conditions.
Speaking at the diocesan secretariat, Bishop Murugara called on the government to ensure residents in flood-prone areas are moved to safer places to prevent loss of lives.
He emphasized the need to protect persons living with disabilities during the rainy season, warning that neglecting vulnerable groups could worsen the situation.
As schools close for the December holidays, the bishop urged parents to monitor their children’s movements, activities and television content.
He also cautioned Kenyans against crossing flooded rivers and bridges, emphasizing the importance of protecting human life.
