Parents have been urged to closely supervise their children during the long Christmas holiday amid concerns over rising cases of defilement, incest and other forms of abuse.
Speaking during a graduation ceremony at WhiteSwan School in Embu, Gathoge OCS Elisha Mwaniki warned that children staying with relatives may face increased risks of exploitation.
He noted that some incest cases are reported as defilement, complicating investigations and prosecution and potentially denying victims justice.
Mwaniki cautioned parents against assuming children are safe with relatives and encouraged families to stay together during school holidays.
He also warned that prolonged separation could affect learners’ academic performance, urging parents to resolve family conflicts and respond promptly whenever children report abuse..
