Blood Shortage at Embu Level 5 Sparks Concern After Pregnant Woman Awaits Emergency Surgery

Residents of Embu County have expressed concern following reports of a severe blood shortage at Embu Level 5 Referral Hospital, a situation that caused a pregnant woman to wait several days before undergoing emergency surgery.

According to initial reports, doctors could not proceed with the surgery immediately due to a lack of the blood required for the procedure.

However, the situation was resolved after Good Samaritans stepped forward to donate blood, enabling the surgery to take place.

Some residents have criticized the hospital’s management and the Embu County government, stating that no patient should face delays in receiving emergency care due to a lack of blood.

They emphasized the importance of ensuring that blood banks maintain adequate reserves at all times to save patients’ lives.

However, the Chief Executive Officer at Embu Level 5 Referral Hospital, Bancy Wawira, has denied allegations that the hospital failed to fulfill its obligations.

She stated that the collection, storage, and distribution of blood in the country are managed by the national government.
