Embu High Court Upholds Election of Leo Muthende as Mbeere North Member of Parliament

The Embu High Court on Thursday upheld the election of Leonard Muthende as the Member of Parliament for Mbeere North following the recent by-election held on November 27, 2025.

In his ruling, Justice Richard Mwongo dismissed eight of issues that the petitioner had raised challenging Muthende’s election, noting that they failed to meet the required legal threshold for proof and admissibility.

The court further ordered the petitioners to pay costs amounting to KSh 4 million, to be awarded to Muthende and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Following the judgment, Mbeere North MP Leonard Muthende welcomed the decision, saying it now gives him room to focus on serving the residents and delivering on his development agenda.

However, the petitioners’ lawyer, Kariuki Njiiri, expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling, stating that they intend to file an appeal and gather additional evidence to challenge the decision.
