Diocese of Embu Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u has approved the use of Carlo Acutis and Maria Goretti as patron saints for the Missionary Youth for Christ (MYC) in the diocese, urging young people to emulate their virtues and grow in faith.
St. Maria Goretti will serve as the patron saint for girls, while St. Carlo Acutis will guide the boys.
The bishop made the announcement during the Diocesan MYC annual Mass at St. Francis Xavier Siakago Parish, held under this year’s theme “One in Christ, United in Mission.”
He noted that since MYC members are young, they need saints they can relate to in age and whose lives they can easily emulate.

In his homily, Bishop Ndung’u encouraged the youth to accept Jesus Christ, remain prayerful, and avoid fear.
He urged them to rely on prayer in all situations, saying they should pray always—including the rosary—and call upon Jesus whenever they face challenges, assuring them that Christ never forsakes His people.
He also called on the youth to be disciplined, hardworking, and charitable, while appealing to Kenyans to pray for the country ahead of the 2027 elections and for the education sector facing challenges under the Competency-Based Education programme.
Church leaders also urged students to maintain good behavior, strengthen family relationships, and focus on academic excellence as they prepare to return to school.
